Modern playgrounds typically have a lot of recreational or playground equipment.

They comes in many types, ranges and sizes- depending on whether the playground is indoor or outdoor, in a play area or a large scale entertainment facility. Examples of playground equipment include the see –saw , merry-go round, swing set , jungle gym, chin up bars, sandbox, spring rider in different forms like airplanes or animals , monkey bars, overhead ladder, trapeze rings, playhouses and even mazes.

They are age and development dependant as play ground areas are often split into different age groups – under three years of age and over three for example.

The playground equipment will different in type as well as size according to the age range, with more sensory equipment and simpler play tools like driving wheels for the younger age.

They can help with children development by encouraging physical co-ordination, strength, flexibility as well as providing recreation and lots of fun.

Older playgrounds will have each equipment as a standalone but more common in modern playgrounds are play structures that link many different pieces of equipment.

It is referred to as equipment intended for use in play areas of parks, schools, at the back of restaurants to entertain children, resorts and recreational clubs.
